The turtles we currently have for adoption are listed below. By state law, our facility is NOT open to the public. We are a home-based group and therefore do not offer open tours to view the turtles in our care. If you have found a turtle you are interested in, please take a moment to fill out the Adoption Application, which can be found above. Once you submit the application, we will be in touch and, if approved, can set up an appointment to view the turtle you're interested in. Detailed information about each available turtle is available on request. Please email email@example.com.
Sometimes the turtles we re-home are "special-needs". This can mean many different things. The turtle may need a slightly modified habitat or may need extra monitoring. It could also mean the turtle has a life-altering deficit that will require a specialized environment, altered diet, or hands-on care such as hand-feeding. If you're interested in adopting one of our special-needs turtles, please don't hesitate to contact us for more specific information. Special-needs doesn't necessarily mean more difficult to care for, it just means the turtle may need slightly different care than others of their species. Special-needs turtles are often some of the most rewarding turtles to keep.
We do not charge an adoption fee and we do not sell any turtles; however, in most cases hundreds of dollars have been spent on housing, care, medical expenses and food for each of the turtles you see listed for adoption. If you would like to make a donation at the time of adoption, all donations are accepted and very much appreciated.
All potential adopters will be heavily screened. We are willing to ship, on a case-by-case basis - adopter pays all shipping costs. If a turtle is to be shipped out of state, the adoption must also first be approved by the MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. Shipping is temperature-sensitive. Depending on where you live, we may not be able to ship to you during summer or winter. There will be absolutely no adoptions, local or otherwise, between Thanksgiving and New Year.
Please be familiar with your state and local laws. We will not willingly or knowingly adopt any turtle where it is prohibited to do so by law. In Mississippi, you MUST possess a "valid Resident Sportsman's License, a Resident All Game Hunting and Freshwater Fishing License, a Small Game Hunting and Freshwater Fishing License, or a Non-Resident All Game Hunting License" to possess native turtles. Further, "no person shall possess more than a total of 20 nongame reptiles" and of that 20 "no more than four (4) can be of the same species or subspecies." Mississippi Code of 1972, Section 49-5-107. More on Mississippi laws regarding turtles, frogs, salamanders, or snakes can be found on the website of the MS Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
The turtles we have available for adoption can be found at the PetFinder link below. We try to keep this list of adoptable turtles as current as possible; however, if there is a particular type of turtle you are interested in adopting, please feel free to contact us to inquire.
