COVID Information
For the most part, we are business-as -usual during the COVID pandemic; however, there have been a few important changes you should know about pertaining to our facility and our ability to pick up turtles in need of rescue.
- We are a two-person team - Luke and Christy. Luke is at extreme risk of death if he should contract COVID due to a recently-diagnosed underlying medical illness. Because of this, we must remain isolated and not put ourselves in situations that could risk either of us contracting the virus.
- We can travel no more than 30 minutes from our home in Florence, Mississippi to pick up turtles in need of rescue or to release turtles after rehabilitation. If you are further away than that and have an injured turtle, we will work with you and others and do everything within our power to help get the turtle us. We just can't come get it ourselves at this time.
- Our facility is our home, so we cannot have people inside. This includes visitors, people dropping or picking up turtles, or volunteers unless pre-screened and pre-approved.
- Pre-arranged turtle pickups or drop-offs will be conducted outside. Please call (601) 500-5033 to arrange a pickup or drop-off, and then call that number again when you arrive. We will meet you outside at your vehicle.
- If you prefer, picking up a turtle or dropping one off can be completely contact-less. Let us know when you call if this is your preference.
- Masks/face coverings that cover the entire nose and mouth are required at all times on our property.
